Our Behavioral Health Services in San Jose, CA

Adult Psychiatric Inpatient Services

The dedicated medical team at Good Samaritan Hospital has been successfully providing adult psychiatric inpatient services to the San Jose community since 1975. We provide a safe, supportive environment for adult patients with severe or life-threatening psychiatric problems, including:

  • Major depression
  • Bipolar illness
  • Anxiety disorders
  • Schizophrenia

Our goal is to provide quality care to prevent, support, and treat mental, emotional, and behavioral conditions and to return the patient to his or her home and community as soon as possible. With an emphasis on a flexible continuum of care, patients are thoroughly evaluated and placed in the least restrictive, most cost-effective, and most clinically appropriate setting while they are treated.

Adult Partial Hospitalization Services

Good Samaritan’s Adult Partial Hospitalization Program is a structured, cost-effective alternative to 24-hour inpatient hospitalization. The program—which consists of six-hour days, five days a week—delivers flexible levels of care tailored to the individual's needs. Our program incorporates dual diagnosis (addictive and mental illness diagnoses) assessment and treatment services. Many patients from the PHP are able to eventually transition into the Intensive Outpatient Program.

Intensive Outpatient Services

Our morning, afternoon, and evening Intensive Outpatient Programs are individualized for each patient as he or she transitions back to the home or workplace. The program is held three to five days per week, two to three hours a day. The average stay is typically two to three weeks.

A Dual Diagnosis Intensive Outpatient Program is also available for those with both addictive and mental illness diagnoses. We also offer Aftercare Support Groups so that we can provide a continuing level of support during the day or evening for patients who have been discharged from treatment.

Behavioral Health Services for Older Adults

At Good Samaritan Hospital, our years of experience have shown us that older adults often have specific needs in behavioral health. It is for this reason that we have designed a program just for adults 65 years and older. The program consists of weekly support group meetings that focus on mental health issues related to aging, such as depression, grief, loss, and social support.

Support and ancillary services for our older adult group include:

  • Dialectical Behavioral Therapy
  • Tai Chi
  • Yoga
  • Music Meditation Therapy
  • Pain Management Through Alternative Therapies
