Get acquainted with Dr. Kenneth Blumenfeld, Chair of Department of Neurosciences.

An experienced and talented neurosurgeon, Dr. Kenneth Blumenfeld became interested in treating cancer patients because of the unique challenges involved with tumors of the central nervous system. He’s happy to say there is a growing ability to successfully treat these kinds of tumors.

Over the years, Dr. Blumenfeld has developed subspecialty interests that encompass neuro-oncology; stereotactic radiosurgery; degenerative spine, neurovascular and pituitary disease; and sports and general neurological trauma. At Good Samaritan Hospital, he believes in the community-based, patient-centered and compassionate approach to multidisciplinary care.

His professional activities extend to clinical research and organized medicine. Some highlights include principle investigator for the multicenter national head injury trial ProTECT, member of the Santa Clara County Trauma Audit Committee, treasurer of the California Association of Neurological Surgeons, vice chair of the CMA Council on Legislation, and liaison to the national Joint Section on Neurotrauma and Critical Care. He also holds a clinical faculty appointment at UCSF.

Born, raised and educated in the east, Dr. Blumenfeld received his medical degree from Johns Hopkins and completed his neurosurgical residency at the University of Pennsylvania.
